What Happened
The anti-nuclear movement in New Zealand is a significant part of New Zealand's history and the anti-nuclear legislation that was passed due to the stance New Zealander's had on the issue has helped shape the country since it was signed in 1987. In 1987, after many years of protest in New Zealand against nuclear weapons and testing, three years after Labour won the snap elections in 1984 with the intent for New Zealand to be nuclear free, the New Zealand Nuclear Free Zone, Disarmament, and Arms Control Act legislation was passed. As a result, there were many changes for New Zealand society, including the change in New Zealand's relations with other countries.
